HLT43007 Certificate IV in Dental Assisting (Radiography)

Course Description

The Certificate IV in Dental Assisting HLT43007 provides the knowledge and skills necessary to provide an advanced level of chair-side assistance to the operator, including contributing to the quality of dental care provided through well developed communication skills, providing an oral health education programme that promotes good oral health as part of general good health as well as implementing and monitoring infection control policy and procedures.

This qualification allows the dental assistant to select electives that are specific to workplace needs or will assist in developing skills/knowledge to advance career development opportunities within the dental industry.

The qualification Certificate IV in Dental Assisting HLT43007 (radiography stream) provides the skills needed to interpret a request from a dental operator for a radiographic image and to produce the image in those states where Dental Assistants are allowed to undertake these tasks under State Dental Acts and regulations. The qualification includes patient preparation and positioning and selection of equipment requirements.

The Certificate IV in Dental Assisting HLT43007 (radiography stream) consists of 7 units (3 core units, 3 mandatory radiography units and 1 elective unit).

The following core units form part of the HLT43007 Certificate IV in Dental Assisting HLT43007 as well as required knowledge obtained in practical situations in the workplace environment.

For students wishing to enrol in Certificate IV in Dental Assisting HLT43007 (radiography stream), it is a pre-requisite of entry that the Student must hold the qualification Certificate III in Dental Assisting HLT31807 (or equivalent) or be able to obtain recognised prior learning for the following units:

HLT1N302A Process reusable instruments and equipment in health work
HLTOHS200A Participate in OHS processes
HLTDA303B Prepare for and assist with oral health care procedures

Delivery of Course

We offer Certificate IV in Dental Assisting HLT43007 (radiography stream) via flexible learning. The course delivery will consist of reading material, exercises and assessment tasks which will be completed both in the workplace setting (if employed) and in the Student's own time.

Even though the course delivery is via flexible learning (distance learning), the Student receives a structured training plan timetable outlining when each unit is due for completion, to help the Student achieve completion with the 12 month timeframe or earlier.

Throughout the training, the Student will receive personalised and individual training customised to suit the Student's specific needs and requirements. Communication is via telephone/email support and regular face to face meetings as required. The Training Assessor will be in contact with the Student every 2 weeks by telephone to see how the Student is progressing with their studies and to assist in maintaining motivation, clarify any areas of concern and keeping the Student on target with unit completion dates.

Would my employer be able to pay for this course?

If you are currently employed, your employer may be entitled to receive a $4,000 training grant for you to undertake this training.
